La Serna’s Huerta commits to Division III Redlands

La Serna offensive lineman Enrique Huerta has committed to play at Redlands, he confirmed Friday.
Huerta chose the NCAA Division III Bulldogs over La Verne, Pacific University in Oregon, Wisconsin Lutheran, Whittier College and Knox College in Illinois.
Huerta visited the campus in January and immediately like it, but decided to wait a few months before making a final decision. He committed to Redlands and coach Mike Maynard this week.
“There was just something about (Redlands), I loved it,” Huerta said. “It felt like the right choice.”
Huerta was an All-Del Rio League and All-CIF tackle for La Serna, and helped the Lancers claim the Southeast Division championship in a thrilling double overtime final against Norwalk. He said he’ll play either guard or tackle at Redlands, and coaches have told him to learn both positions.
He plans to major in environmental business.
“Right from the beginning, I was impressed with who he was,” Redlands coach Mike Maynard said. “… I think he’s a winner.”
Redlands posted a 7-3 record last year, won the SCIAC championship and reached the NCAA Division III playoffs.
