Sloppy first-place game goes to La Serna

Neither team played particularly well in Tuesday’s Del Rio League softball showdown, but La Serna emerged with a 4-2 victory to remain unbeaten in league play.
Molly Bourne had a two-run double for the Lancers, and Jamie Wren struck out four batters over seven innings for La Serna, which improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the DRL.
Cal (101-10, 2-1) had just four hits, including a two-run single by Jaclyn Macias in the second inning. But the Condors stranded runners in scoring position in the first and fourth innings, and the game’s final out was recorded at the plate when Joslyn Macias was thrown out trying to score on a passed ball.
“We should have hit a lot better than that,” said Cal coach Jim Kruse. “That’s been our problem all year.”
La Serna, ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 3, will visit El Rancho on Thursday. Cal will host Santa Fe.
