Second place still a possibility for Heralds

Whittier Christian’s boys volleyball team can still finish alone in second place in the Olympic League, but it must top rival Valley Christian next week on the road.
The Heralds fell to 4-2 in league play Thursday with their 3-1 loss to Heritage Christian. Heritage clinched the league’s No. 1 playoff seed by improving to 6-0 with two matches left.
Whittier Christian leads Valley Christian by one match in the standings, and the teams will meet in Valley’s gym Thursday. Whittier Christian pulled out a five-game victory when the teams met earlier this season. The Heralds will close the regular season May 6 at home against last-place Maranatha, whom they swept April 10.
“We hope to win those two, be 6-2 and set us up for a good (draw) in the playoffs,” coach Chris Duran said following Thursday’s match.
