La Serna will enter CIF playoffs as No. 1 seed from Del Rio League

With its 11-2 victory over El Rancho on Tuesday, La Serna’s softball team clinched the Del Rio League’s No. 1 seed for the upcoming CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.
The Lancers improved to 8-1 in DRL play with one game remaining. That puts them one game ahead of second-place Cal, but La Serna holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the rival Condors and is assured the league’s top playoff seeding. The Lancers will finish the regular season Thursday at Whittier, the only team to beat them in league play this season.
Cal’s 1-0 victory over Santa Fe on Tuesday clinched a second-place DRL finish. The Condors are 7-2 and will host Pioneer on Thursday. They are one game ahead of third-place Santa Fe, but hold the tiebreaker over the Chiefs and will be the league’s No. 2 playoff seed no matter Thursday’s result. That could mean a first-round playoff game at home next week.
“Whether we’ll get a home game, I don’t know,” Cal coach Jim Kruse said. “I hope so.”
