LA HABRA >> La Habra High School is not listed in this week’s San Gabriel Valley Newspapers top 10 girls volleyball rankings. But that might change next week.
The Highlanders made a statement Tuesday for inclusion.
Ashly Hernandez had six kills and seven aces and Lexi Kolschefski had 15 kills to lead La Habra to a 22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-11, 15-12 victory over No. 5 La Serna in a nonleague match.
Marina Pilkington also had eight kills for the Highlanders, who improved to 2-1. Laura Butler and Isabelle Van Lockner had 12 kills each for the Lancers, who slipped to 1-1.
La Habra coach Adrianne Spear: “They (her team) have this little fight in them that they just don’t give up. We struggled in the first game, we struggled in the third game, and we started to struggle in the that fifth game. But because of that fight, they were able to overcome that. They really played like a team. I enjoyed watching them play today. It’s fun to watch. We just need to do that a lot sooner.”
La Habra’s Ashly Hernandez: “I don’t know what it is. Sometimes we just need to push through. We did it, and I’m really glad. It felt great to win. It felt just like the last time we beat them. It’s really awesome.”
