BELLFLOWER — Although they are just 5-foot-5 and 5-9, respectively, La Mirada High’s Sei-j Lauago and Niko Carrasco stood above everyone on the football field Friday night.
The running back tandem of Lauago and Carrasco combined for 232 rushing yards and four touchdowns as the Matadores handed Bellflower its first loss of the season in a 40-20 rout at Ron Yary Stadium.
La Mirada’s starting back, Nick Hernandez, went down on the game’s first play of the Suburban League showdown and did not return. But head coach Mike Moschetti plays with a “next man up” mentality that came through with Lauago and Carrasco.

Niko Carrasco: “It feels good, I haven’t been getting a lot of playing time. So when I heard my name called I knew I had to step up.”
