SANTA FE SPRINGS >> Some viewed the St. Francis High School football team’s Friday night encounter at St. Paul as the ultimate trap game.
But it was the host Swordsmen who got caught.
Jeremiah Martin threw for 200 yards and three scores and the Golden Knights showed no signs of last week’s big win over Cathedral with a 49-10 victory at St. Paul in an Angelus League game.
Dylan Crawford had seven receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns and Mason Williams and Andrew MacKinnon had return scores for Golden Knights (8-0, 3-0).
Jacob Maier accounted for 96 yards and a touchdown for St. Paul (4-4, 1-2).
St. Francis put it away by halftime. The Golden Knights were nearly perfect during the first two quarters and took a 35-10 lead at the break.
St. Francis, which outgained St. Paul 217-134, in the first half, scored on three of its first four possessions, had an interception return for a touchdown and a punt return for a score.

LA MIRADA 35, MAYFAIR 0
BELLFLOWER —- La Mirada’s march through the Suburban League continued on Friday night with a 35-0 victory over Mayfair at Bellflower High School.
The Matadores (7-1 overall, 4-0 league) dominated from the start, leading 28-0 at halftime while rushing for 201 yards before the break.
La Mirada’s offense displayed its versatility in the second quarter, first with an 18-play 94-yard drive that lasted over nine minutes and was capped by a 16-yard run by quarterback Christian Lara.
The Matadores showed they could also strike quickly, closing out the first half with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Lara to Tony Brown, finishing an 80-yard drive in under a minute.
Brown has caught at least one touchdown pass in all seven games he has played.
La Mirada’s defense benefited from the from the offense controlling the ball, but that unit certainly did its part, holding Mayfair to just 193 total yards. Mayfair only drove inside La Mirada territory once, never threatening to score at any point.
Sei-J Lauago led the Matadores’ rushing attack with 105 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.

EL RANCHO 34, PIONEER 14
LA MIRADA — El Rancho High won its fifth consecutive game and easily defeated host Pioneer 34-14 on Friday night at La Mirada High to remain in first place in the Del Rio League.
Leading the way for the Dons was running back James Garcia with 130 yards on 17 carries.
The sophomore, taking over for injured running back Isaiah Copado, scored two touchdowns to help pace the Dons (6-2, 3-0). “It feels good to step up and help my team and I thank my offensive line,” said an elated Garcia.
Garcia, nursing a bad shoulder, was aided by Mark Milan, Bobby Ramirez, Mason Gonzalez, Adrian Garcia and Ricardo Toriz.
Senior quarterback Andrew Perea was 16 for 33 for 182 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Dons. He also ran for 109 yards on 10 carries.

ROUNDUP: CAL, LA HABRA SCORE EASY WINS
California High gave Nathan Lowden the ball and he delivered Friday night.
The running back rushed for four touchdowns to help the Condors to a 47-14 Del Rio League victory over Whittier.
