CIF-SS Boys Basketball Playoffs; Sonora holds off Pasadena; La Mirada ousts Agoura
By Stephen Ramirez
PASADENA >> Sonora High School is back in the CIF-Southern Section boys basketball semifinals, but just barely.
Stephen Murphy scored 17 points and Ben Rico 15 and the top-seeded Raiders survived furious second-half rally by host Pasadena to score a 60-57 victory in a Division 3AA quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Josh Rodriguez also had 14 points for Sonora, which improved to 25-4 and will travel to Diamond Ranch, which beat San Marcos, 39-36, on Friday. Tyrek Adams had 20 points and Ben Burgoyne 19 for the Bulldogs, who finished 19-10.
Pasadena had a chance to tie it at the end, but 3-point shots by Marc Howard Jr. and Adams were short at the buzzer.
