CIF-SS Girls Soccer Playoffs: La Mirada scores 3-0 win at Crescenta Valley

LA CRESCENTA —
La Mirada High School, with no seniors, is one of the youngest girls soccer teams in the CIF-Southern Section.
But there’s no doubting the Matadores’ talent, which was again put on full display Tuesday.
Sophomore Maddy Bennett scored two goals and had an assist and No. 2 seed La Mirada scored a 3-0 victory over host Crescenta Valley in a Division 4 second-round game.
Freshman Simoan Handy also had a goal for the Matadores, who improved to 23-2 and advanced to face either Sage Hill or Royal in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Sydney Schoeller had seven saves for the Falcons, who finished 12-9-1.

La Mirada’s Maddy Bennett: “We want to win CIF and we have to keep bringing out our best game. That’s what we did. We got two more goals in the second half, and that’s what you have to do. You have to play like a team.”

La Mirada coach David Christensen: “I’ve got a very good team and we did what we had to do today. Crescenta Valley played a very good game. We were a little flat and it took a bit to get going. But I’m very happy we the result.”
