SANTA FE SPRINGS >> St. Paul High School’s Clarissa Perez has always trusted her heart on and off the basketball court, and it was no different when the senior selected her college choice.
Perez, despite having yet to make an on-campus visit, signed with Utah State University-Eastern Wednesday during a private party at her home in front of her family, friends and teammates.
“No, I haven’t visited the school yet, so I’m kind of going into it a little bit blind,” Perez said. “But this is where I am as a basketball player and where I want to go.
(Utah State-Eastern) went to the semifinals last year of the national junior college tournament, and I come from a winning program like St. Paul, so I wanted to go to a winning program. I want to learn like I did at St. Paul, and that’s what they offered me. I heard (head coach Chelsey Warburton) is a really well-respected coach. She was a shooting guard and a point guard and I want to master that. I think she’s the best coach to get me to where I want to get to.”
