LA MIRADA 35, CHARTER OAK 14
COVINA >> What a difference a week makes.
The La Mirada High School football team bounced back from its Week 0 thrashing at the hands of St. John Bosco to rout host Charter Oak on Friday night in a 35-14 victory.
“I’m proud of the kids, we bounced back and got a victory,” La Mirada head coach Mike Moschetti said. “We don’t care what people say. What happened against Bosco, it’s in the past. It made us better. It humbled us.
“If we could, we’d line up and play and Bosco at the end of the year. That’s how these kids are.”

MONTEBELLO 43, NORTHVIEW 42
MONTEBELLO >> Montebello High School football coach Pete Gonzalez said this summer that after losing in the CIF-Southern Section quarterfinals each of the past two seasons, this fall could be special.
The Oilers are living up to the expectation during the first two weeks of the season.
Quarterback Ryan Rivera accounted for 316 yards and four touchdowns and running back Isaac Mendibles rushed for 226 and a touchdown to lead Montebello to a 43-42 victory over Northview on Friday in a battle of two of the top teams in the Mid-Valley Division.
Northview (1-1), ranked No. 4 in the division, had a chance for the victory at the end. The Vikings drove 79 yards in the final three minutes to pull within 43-42 on a 15-yard pass from Steven Comstock to Antwuan Ayers as time expired. The Vikings went for the win and the 2-point conversion. But Daniel Parra intercepted Combstock to secure the victory.
