LA MIRADA 52, NORWALK 7

LA MIRADA >> There were those who wondered what the effects of a brutal nonleague schedule would be on the La Mirada High School football team,
The answers came early and often Friday.
Tristan Meyer threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns and Sei-J Lauago and Chad Wilson each returned kickoffs for scores to lead the host Matadores to a 52-7 victory over Norwalk in the teams’ Suburban League opener.
Mario Hernandez rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown for La Mirada, which improved 2-3. The Matadores also got a 65-yard touchdown run from Anthony Melendez and outgained the Lancers, 422-97.
Chris Walker rushed for 81 yards for Norwalk, which slipped to 1-4.
La Mirada coach Mike Moschetti: “I was really disappointed last weekend against San Clemente. We just didn’t finish the game (in a 42-26 loss). This is a big rivalry, La Mirada and Norwalk, I thought we came out and played really physical. There is still a lot of things we have to fix, but the kids are working hard and this was a good win.”
La Mirada’s Tristan Meyer: “We worked hard all week and we executed (Friday). We played hard and executed all around.”
