Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary-Woodcrest Christian preview: The dream postseason run of the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School baseball team seems almost fitting given the drama the Cardinals had to endure this season. What would be even more fitting is if it all resulted in an improbable championship. The Cardinals get their chance on Saturday night at UC Riverside when they play Woodcrest Christian for the CIF Southern Section Division 5 championship. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.“I’ve got my boys totally believing that this was all meant to be,” Cantwell head coach Larry Patino said. “I’ve won many championships in my years, at a way higher level, and I’ve never felt this calm.”CSHM enters Saturday’s game at 29-4 and riding a 14-game winning streak. As sexy as those numbers look, the Cardinals were not one of the division’s top-four seeds. But they’ve certainly played like one of the favorites throughout the postseason.Woodcrest Christian (28-5) is the division’s top seed. The Royals are led by sophomore ace Gabriel Ramos, who has won 10 games this season and has a 0.98 ERA.CSHM will counter with senior Andrew Quillen, who has won two playoff games and has emerged as his team’s ace after not pitching last season due to a elbow injury.

CSHM’s Andrew Quillen takes long road to glory: Andrew Quillen isn’t letting the magnitude of the situation mess with him.In fact, the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School senior won’t even think about the stakes of his final prep start until he’s on the mound on Saturday night and ready to throw his first pitch against Woodcrest Christian in the CIF Southern Section Division 5 championship at UC Riverside.“So far, it hasn’t hit me,” Quillen said of getting the ball in his team’s biggest game of the year. “This will be my third start of the playoffs and in the other starts, it didn’t hit me until the first pitch. I just really don’t think about it.”
