La Mirada solidified its hold on being the No. 2 boys basketball team in the area and maybe showing consideration for the top spot, currently held by Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, with a 62-58 victory over No. 4 Sonora in the North Orange County Tournament championship game at Sonora High.
Daniel Cabrera scored 20 points and Kevin Askew had 13 for the Matadores, who improved to 8-2.
La Mirada, which will get its shot at area No. 1 CSHM in early January, also got 13 from Shemar Morrow and 10 from Nick Colosi.
Sonora slipped to 10-2.
