The race for the Suburban League title will come down to one game.Mayfair High School made sure of it Wednesday.Landon Anderson threw a five-hit shutout and had the go-ahead RBI to lead the Monsoons to a much-needed 4-0 victory over visiting La Mirada.Devin Mendez had a two-run double and Noel Soto had a RBI single for Mayfair (16-4, 8-1). RJ Lan and Tyler Cappon had two hits each for the Matadores (20-5, 8-1).The teams meet at La Mirada at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.

“We’re all tied up (now),” Anderson said. “We have a big game on Friday. Hopefully, we can get the sweep (for the week) and take league.”
Mayfair took control of the game in the third inning. Eric Chavarria, who went 2 for 3, led off with a bloop double to right field. Anderson singled with one out to make it 1-0. The lead then blossomed to 3-0 when Mendez doubled to center field with the bases loaded.
Soto made it 4-0 in the sixth with a RBI single to score pinch-runner Abraham Ortiz.
Matadores ace Eddie Salcido gave up four hits and struck out five to fall to 8-2.
“I don’t think he got hit that bad,” La Mirada coach Jim Zurn said. . “You (look) at the inning they got three. He made a great pitch and the guy (Chavarria) got out in front of it and hits the foul line (in right field). He executed his pitch and luckily for them, it found the foul line.”
Anderson took care of the rest.
The senior, who improved to 8-1, finished with eight strikeouts. He closed the game by retiring seven of the final eight batters.
He got in trouble just twice. La Mirada put runners on first and third in the fourth inning following an error and a single by Cappon. But Anderson induced Alex Gonzalez to pop out before striking out Justin Scroggin.
Lan doubled with two outs in the fifth, but Anderson got Kevin Kendall, who has signed with UCLA, to fly out.
“I was able to establish my first pitch, which was my fastball,” Anderson said. “I tried to shut them down.”
The Matadores also had a chance in the second. Lan singled with two outs. But was thrown out at home after an error on a fly ball by Kendall.
“It wasn’t our day today,” Zurn said. “But that’s why it’s a series and we’ll be ready to go on Friday.”
