Flintridge Prep 206, Azusa 277 — The Rebels had all of the top five scorers of the day at the Azusa Greens Golf Course par 34 to defeat Azusa (1-3) for the nonleague win. Jonah Sacks shot an even 34, Justin Yu shot a 39, Kartik Tandon shot a 42, Brendon Barton shot a 45 and William Pai shot a 46 for Flintridge Prep (5-0).
St. Paul 222, Whittier 234 — Jason Gras shot a 39, Brandon Baucom shot a 44 and Jacob Munoz shot a 45 at Whittier Narrows Golf Course to lead the Swordsmen (3-3) to the nonleague victory. Albert Gonzalez shot a 39 and Josh Gardea shot a 41 for Whittier (1-1).
Boys volleyball
Whittier Christian 3, Downey 2 — Branden Osborn had 15 kills, Seth Shumate had three kills and 30 assists and Ron Bellamy had five kills and three blocks for the Heralds (2-0) in a 17-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21,15-12 nonleague victory.

Jim Maier returns to coach St. Paul softball team after 13 years at CSDH

Jim Maier, who coached the St. Paul High softball team in the 1980s and 1990s, has been hired to once again coach the Swordsmen, the school has announced.

Maier just finished a 13-year stint at Cal State Dominguez Hills, a solid Division II program. Maier coached the Toros to 460 victories with an overall winning percentage of .627. In 2012, his team was one win away from the College World Series.

Maier guided the Swordsmen to 14 consecutive playoff appearances during his first stint and had a record of 300-78.
