Yucaipa - The China Express Donut Hut and Chinese Food reopened its doors last week after a fire swept through the building that houses the cozy little shop 14 months ago, June 2007. The fire also knocked several other merchants out of business as well including a dental office, Hallmark store, yogurt shop, and dry cleaners.

But the long wait is finally over and most of the businesses have returned. At China Express, Kelly Chhor, who manages the shop, said customers are steadily returning since reopening on Thursday, Aug. 28.

"We've been here 11 years now, and our old customers are coming back," said Chhor. "They tell us we've been gone to long."

Along with several combination plates and a la carte selections, Chhor said that since reopening the shop has expanded its menu to include more entrees, soups, smoothies and slushees.

China Express is open is open every day of the week from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is located at 34488 Yucaipa Boulevard in the Stater Bros. Shopping Center near 4th Street.

Hi Jefferson, I checked the comments throughout the day as often as possible. But I'm also out covering stories and interviewing, so some of this garbage sneaks on when I'm logged off. I agree with you, it needs to be taken off as soon as possible. And I try and be vigilant and do that. Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate your concern.
