YUCAIPA - The English are coming, the English are coming. English as in English soccer team, that is. According to Yucaipa Valley Adult Soccer League President, Steve Jativa, Redlands United has joined the adult men's league for the fall season, and he expects them to give the powerful National team a battle for league supremacy.

"This is an all new team that joined our league and they look strong," said Jativa. "They are about 80-percent English players and I think they will give undefeated National a run for the league championship and playoffs. National is 12-0, but Redlands United looked very impressive in their first game. They are the team to watch."

YVASL has a men's and a women's division, with 10 men's teams and four women's teams. The men's league is for players age 18 and older, and the women's is 30 and older, but does allow ages 18 and older to play, but only three players under age 30 are allowed in the game at one time.

The league also has a "no slide tackle" rule for safety purposes. The league began play on Oct. 26 and will continue until the end of January, Jativa said. Games are played at the Jerry Lewis Soccer Complex off Oak Glen Road.

Although league play has begun, registration is on going and players are put on a waiting list as Jativa would like to form one more men's team, and one more women's.

All games are played on Sunday's with the men's games scheduled for 2:15 and 3:45, while the women play at 5 and 7 p.m. The Jerry Lewis Soccer Complex is located on Oak Glen Road next to Yucaipa Regional Park.
