Yucaipa Yankees Padgett delivers championship clinching hit
YUCAIPA - With the game tied, 4-4, Wyatt Padgett's one out single to center drove in Matt Davidson with the game-winning run as the Yucaipa Yankees defeated the Chino Hills Dirtdawgs, 5-4, to win the 12-team Yucaipa Invitational Tournament, Sunday, at Thompson Field. Davidson doubled deep to right-centerfield to set up Padgett's game winner.
The Dirtdawgs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Yankees pitcher, David Petta, got out of the jam to pick up the save for the Yankees.
The tournament was played Saturday and Sunday with every team guaranteed three games with the top four teams advancing to Sunday's single elimination playoff. Earlier Sunday morning, The Yankees earned their way into the championship game with a 6-5 victory in nine innings (two extra innings) over the Upland Pirates. The Yankees, comprised of many Yucaipa High School players, finished the tournament with a 4-1 record; their lone loss coming at the hands of the SoCal Angels.
