Groundbreaking ceremony scheduled at Crafton Hills College

YUCAIPA - Crafton Hills College (CHC) will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for its two main construction projects, December 5, 11 a.m., at the soccer field behind the CHC Gymnasium.

Planned for completion in 2009-2010 academic year are a new Learning Resource Center (LRC)/Library building and a Community Recreation Facility that will include a swimming pool. Grading and infrastructure work began for the projects this summer.

The groundbreaking will be at the Community Recreation Facility site on the former soccer field. There will be only one groundbreaking ceremony. Afterwards, there will be a reception at the patio of the CHC Performing Arts Center, where guests can view the work being done on the other project, the LRC/Library.

The LRC/Library will be constructed on the peninsula jutting out behind the Performing Arts Center and the Student Services B (Counseling) Building.

In 2006, Steinberg Architects, a Los Angeles firm selected to develop the campus master plan, presented the 2012 implementation plan to the public and gave an overview of the 2025 master plan including the architectural expression, planning concepts, plan development, landscape plan, and guidelines.

The plan calls for approximately 54 percent of the cost for the LRC to be funded from state bond money, and the remaining amount funded through Measure P, a bond issue approved in a local election in 2001. The pool will be funded through Measure P funds.

Construction updates are currently posted on the CHC website newsletter. In the future, the updates will be posted on the website home page in the "Spotlight" box. The CHC website address is www.craftonhills.edu and the newsletter link is under the menu selection "Community."
