Yucaipa freshmen boys hold off West Valley in Hemet tourney

HEMET - The Yucaipa Boys Freshmen Basketball team evened its record to 1-1 with a 50-37 victory over the Hemet West Valley Mustangs in the Hemet Freshmen Basketball Tournament held Friday, Dec. 5 at Hemet High School.

The Thunderbirds burst out to a 13-2 lead in the early going and led 21-12 at the half. West Valley closed to within 8 in the second half, but the Thunderbirds tightened up its defense and starting hitting their shots again to pull away in the fourth quarter.

In their first game of the tournament, Yucaipa fell, 45-43, to Palm Springs. The tournament concludes today, Saturday, Dec. 6.

SCORING: Pacing the team were Lenhoft with 13, and T. Sanchez, 10, Curtis, 6, C. Gilmore, 5, and J. Sanchez, 5.
