YUCAIPA - Acclaimed composers Richard Rogers & Oscar Hammerstein's enchanting musical "Cinderella" opened at the Yucaipa Little Theatre February 5, playing to nearly sold out crowds the first two weekends.
Over thirty cast members have been hard at work for two months creating an entertaining presentation of the timeless story of a young girl, her wicked family, a charming prince and impossible dreams coming true.
"This cast is imaginative and playful, raising the bar on their performances with each rehearsal. Audience members, from 8 to 80, will have a great time watching the fun," said Christine Presley, director.
Lindsey Martin, a student at Crafton Hills College, stars as the dreamy-eyed Cinderella. She has appeared in many YLT musicals and fills the role of demure and good-hearted Cinderella with ease. Her sweet voice gives each song an innocent charm that will steal your heart.
Josh Godfrey, a gifted singer and actor, plays the part of the prince with humble kindness. Godfrey was recently in "Man of La Mancha," and delighted audiences with his exceptional voice.
"The singing and choreography for each musical number are being continually fine-tuned and promise to delight," Presley said. "Choreography coordinators, Kelly Lopez and Michael Rodriguez, have worked tirelessly on each number getting them just right."
Courtney Taylor, a local business owner, plays the part of the wicked stepmother. She also appeared in YLT's production of "Annie" as the wicked orphanage mistress, Miss Hannigan. "I think I'm being typecast," Taylor said.
The evil but dingy stepsister Portia is played by Arlene Angulo, a student at Yucaipa High School, who has appeared in many YLT productions. She brings an energy to the role that lights up the stage whenever she is on.
Evil and dour stepsister Joy is played by Jaelin Palmer, a veteran actress who has appeared on Disney's "Hannah Montana" and "Zack and Cody" in addition to many YLT shows. Jaelin is a student at Parkview Middle School.
Other members of the cast include students from several local elementary schools as well as Yucaipa High School.
"Several parents of young cast members have also been hard at work turning a pumpkin into a golden coach - you don't want to miss that!" said Presley.
The show dates include Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 13, 14, 20 and 21, at 7:30 pm, and Sundays, Feb. 15 and 22 at 3:30 pm. Tickets are $25 for a family pass, $10 per adult ticket, or $8 for senior, student and child tickets.
