Reader says press must stay vigilant about Pharaoh's raves
Letter To The Editor:
FOREST FALLS - Thank you to the Redlands Daily Facts for providing us the inside view of what actually happens at the rave events put on at the Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom site.
If all we had was the Police official who maintained that "the majority of the young people behaved themselves" we would have been left grossly misinformed. A free and vigorous press is needed so that we can be given a clearer vision of behavior that creates an environment where Security Guards are assaulted, drugs are rampant, and sex is literally performed for the crowd on the dance floor.
We the people need to know how uncontrolled this atmosphere is so that we can force our local politicians to put an end to this type of behavior in our community. Thank you for doing what newspapers do best, informing the populace so that we can collectively demand change.

have many friends who attended this rave, and they saw none of what was reported. They've also never touched an illegal drug in their lives. Why would you believe a reporter instead of the police who were there? Reporters constantly seem to report only the negative aspects, like the 43 arrests. Fine, those happened. But what about the other 9955+ people who attended and had a fun, enjoyable time? It wasn't an "uncontrolled atmosphere" at all. These people were customers, in a legal business establishment, with both public and private security guards on duty. But all the press seems to care about are the actions of a few bad apples.
This old man (me) was a hardcore raver in the early 1990s. I'm 40, with a Masters in Education. I work in Higher Ed. I'm married, with 3 kids. One in college, the other two in gate/advance courses.
Raves provided me with best and most deviant of times. Back then, like "today"- thousands of people...young and old, varying races, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds gathered until dawn. Some chemically high, others high on the music and love for the rave.
Unlike Heavy Metal and Rap concerts, violence was the exception. a few arrests out of a thousand attendees is only news when you want it to be.
At least we as parents know where to find our kids, back in the day it was about illegal raves in rundown venues.
Chill out you old hippies and coke snorting disco farts. You are the same people who now teach our kids, run (ruin) governments, and got us in the economic mess we are in.
Another comment said that of about 10,000 kids, about 40-some were taken into custody. So that's a pretty small number. In my day (60s and 70s) parties could really get out of hand. So your point is well taken...not sure I want to shoulder the blame for ruining governments and creating the current economic mess, though.
