The Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team has hired Rhema Gardner as the new assistant coach. Gardner is a recent graduate of UCLA, where she was a valued member of both the Bruins’ playing squad and coaching staff.

Gardner’s off the court efforts will be focused around recruiting and scouting while her on-court duties will involve working with the Broncos’ post players.

In her time as a Bruin, Gardner scored a career-high 18 points and had double-digit rebounds in 12 games. In her 2011-12 campaign, she played in all 30 of UCLA’s games, while making starts in 20 of them.

“Rhema not only knows the game of basketball very well but she also knows Southern California very well and will be a huge help in our recruiting efforts,” Broncos head coach Danelle Bishop said. “On the court she will work closely with our post players.”

Gardner, a graduate of Ayala High School, majored in sociology at UCLA and had a minor in theater.
