Dos Santos brothers called into Mexican national team

Both Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos will join the Mexican national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The brothers will join El Tri following Sunday’s Galaxy’s game against San Jose. They will miss the Sept. 2 game against Colorado.

Mexico hosts Panama, Sept. 1 and visit Costa Rica, Sept. 5.

Giovani dos Santos selected to Mexico’s Confederations Cup roster

Galaxy midfielder Giovani dos Santos will be on quite the international run coming up.

It was announced Thursday that Dos Santos, who is already with Mexico for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, including Sunday’s tilt with the U.S. at Azteca Stadium, will remain with El Tri for the upcoming Confederations Cup tournament.

Mexico opens the tournament June 18 against Portugal in Russia. The finals are set for July 2. That would take dos Santos out of action for the Galaxy until early July.

Dos Santos brothers launch their first soccer camp in Los Angeles

Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos will hold their first official soccer camp, July 24-28 at the Toyota Sports Complex (555 Maple Ave, Torrance CA 90503).

The brothers aim to provide the opportunity to boys and girls between the ages six-16 to enjoy high performance training, based on the values and methods that the they have acquired throughout their careers.

The program has been designed and will be conducted by their father, former professional player and Technical Director of the project Zizinho dos Santos.

Participants will be able to register online at www.2santosofficial.com. Fans can follow @2SantosWorld on social media for exclusive content, updates and information about the project and the Dos Santos brothers.

The camp will be two sessions, from 8:30 a.m. -noon and 1-4:30 p.m.

Jelle Van Damme and Giovani dos Santos selected to Best XI

Galaxy midfielder Giovani dos Santos and defender Jelle Van Damme were selected to the MLS Best XI, recognizing the league’s top players at each position on the field as determined by media, MLS players and MLS club staff.galaxy

In his first season with the Galaxy, Van Damme, 33, developed into the key to the Galaxy defense, making 28 starts. He was a finalist for both the MLS Defender and Newcomer of the Year awards. He ranked third in the league in blocked shots (27) and in the top 10 in interceptions (95).

Dos Santos,27, was also in his first full season with the Galaxy. He was one of two players this season to record double digits in goals scored (14) and assists (12).

Giovani dos Santos called into Mexico national team

Galaxy midfielder Giovani dos Santos has been called into the Mexican national team for the Nov. 11 showdown against the U.S. and Nov. 15 against Panama.

These two matches kick off the Hexagonal Round of World Cup qualifying for CONCACAF.

Dos Santos rejoined El Tri for a pair of friendly matches last month.

Giovani dos Santos selected Galaxy player of the year

The vote for Galaxy player of the year went to the fans this year and they selected Giovani dos Santos.

Dos Santos scored 14 goals with 12 assists in 28 games for the Galaxy.

“He had a very good year obviously. His numbers tell you that. He had 14 goals on the year

and a number of assists. He had a good year and grew as a player,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. “It’s his first year playing regularly…in his career, I think. And hopefully he continues to get better.  But he had a much improved year and he’s gotten acclimated to our city, our club and our league and hopefully he continues to get better.”

Jelle Van Damme was selected Defender of the Year. In his first year with the club and Major League Soccer, Van Damme made 28 starts and helped lead the Galaxy defense to a stingy 39 goals allowed.

Gyasi Zardes was selected Humanitarian of the Year. Jack McBean was the LA Galaxy II Player of the Year and goalkeeper Clement Diop was picked LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year. Lee Nishanian was selected LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year.

Ethan Zubak was the LA Galaxy Academy player of the year.

Giovani dos Santos excited to return to Mexican national team

Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos has been called into the Mexican national team for a pair of upcoming friendlies, it was announced Thursday.

Dos Santos, 27, will join Mexico for the Oct. 8 game against New Zealand in Nashville and

Oct. 11 against Panama, in Bridgeview, Illinois. Dos Santos will rejoin the Galaxy in time gio10for the Oct. 16 game at Houston.

This will be the first time that dos Santos has played for Mexico since the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“I feel very happy to be back with the national team,” dos Santos said Thursday. “I’ve been working really hard to be back there and I’m real excited to get back to the national team.

“I feel very confident. I’ve been working really hard this year and right now I feel in great shape. I go there with a lot of confidence.”

Galaxy preview: Galaxy look to move closer to top of Western Conference

Saturday night was a good one for the Galaxy and the club didn’t even play. galaxy

First-place FC Dallas played to a draw as did Colorado and Real Salt Lake suffered a 1-0 defeat to Houston.

With a victory today against Sporting Kansas City, the Galaxy can move to within two points of first place FC Dallas, which is huge considering they will meet twice next month.

Sporting Kansas City begins the day in the sixth and final playoff spot in the West with 39 points, four ahead of Seattle.

This should be fun. Tune in to KCOP/13 at 11 a.m. for kickoff
