Dodgers’ Brandon League could miss up to 12 weeks with shoulder inflammation.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — An MRI on Brandon League revealed right posterior shoulder inflammation, and the Dodgers pitcher could be out for the next 12 weeks.

League visited with team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache and another doctor Friday, Mattingly said. He’ll be shut down for three weeks before he’s allowed to begin a throwing program.

Mattingly gave a broad timetable for recovery: “6 to 8, or 8 to 12” weeks. “It’s an extended period of time,” he said.

League was already expected to begin the season on the 15-day disabled list. A 12-week timetable for recovery could conceivably leave the Dodgers the option of placing him on the 60-day DL. That would open a roster spot for someone — including infielder Hector Olivera, who agreed to terms with the Dodgers on a $62.5 million, 6-year contract earlier this week.
