A brief Trayce Thompson update.

Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson, who hasn’t played since July 10 because of hairline fractures in his back, said he will meet with a team doctor Monday or Tuesday in Los Angeles to determine if he can increase his workload.

Thompson said he still hasn’t been cleared to run or hit since he was ordered to cease baseball activities about a month ago. His cardio activity has been limited to work in a pool and on an Alter-G machine. Even a green light from a doctor wouldn’t point to an imminent return.

“I wouldn’t bank on me swinging a bat next week,” he said.

That makes the possibility of a minor league rehab assignment unlikely. There’s about a week left in the regular season across the minor leagues. Up to two weeks of playoffs will follow. It’s possible that Thompson could join the Dodgers’ instructional leaguers in Arizona at the end of September too.

Thompson has a goal of returning this season, but he’s aware that he is fighting time.

“I feel like I can do a lot of stuff right now,” he said, “but i know that’s not the plan.”

Thompson had a .225 batting average at the time of his injury, to go along with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs in 80 games.
