The Ducks have left for Minnesota and defenseman Nathan McIver, who was placed on waivers yesterday, went unclaimed and is going on the trip. Sammy Pahlsson isn’t, though the results of his medical evaluation this morning aren’t in yet.
Update (5:45 p.m.): Pahlsson has been diagnosed with a mild viral infection which will keep him out of action for two weeks. A team spokesman said it isn’t considered serious.
Ryan Carter assumed Pahlsson’s spot on the checking line last night, getting the bulk of the 5-on-5 minutes, while Todd Marchant centered the energy line and played the bulk of the short-handed minutes. Expect similar roles in the coming weeks from those two. Fortunately for the Ducks, both Carter and Marchant played fairly well last night against Buffalo. Also fortunately, the next two weeks represent a fairly light stretch in the schedule. After three road games this week, the Ducks play just three games over the next 10 days, all at home.
