The newest Ducklings will be on display Sept. 5 at Anaheim Ice, when 2009 draft picks Peter Holland (first round, 15th overall), Matt Clark (second round) and Scott Valentine (sixth round) participate in the Ducks’ annual rookie camp. The 2 p.m. practice is open to the public.
They will be joined by previous first-round selections Mark Mitera (19th overall in 2006) and center Logan MacMillan (19th overall in 2007). Left wing Matt Beleskey, who made his NHL debut with the Ducks last season, will also be among the 14 forwards on the 25-man roster.
The camp includes a three-game rookie series against the San Jose Sharks at Sharks Ice from Sept. 7-9, with all games being held at 7 p.m.
Holland, a 6-foot, 178-pound forward, was selected to play in the 2009 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) All-Star Classic and participated in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game. He also represented Team Canada at the 2009 Under-18 World Championships in Fargo, N.D.
Clark, a 6-3, 205-pound defenseman, spent last season with Brampton (OHL), collecting 3 goals and 23 points with a +21 rating and 91 penalty minutes in 63 games.
Valentine, a 6-foot, 196-pound defenseman, a split the 2008-09 OHL season with London and Oshawa, combining for 1 goal and 9 points with 71 penalty minutes in 43 games.
After beginning the season at Michigan (CCHA), Mitera made his professional debut with Anaheim’s then-American Hockey League affiliate in Iowa, collecting 2 assists in five games.
MacMillan split his fourth Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) season with Halifax and Rimouski, helping lead the Oceanic to the QMJHL President Cup Semifinals.
Beleskey made his NHL debut with the Ducks in 2008-09, going scoreless in two games. He spent the rest of the season in Iowa, collecting 11 goals and 35 points in 58 games.
