The target just just got real big for the Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team.

The Broncos, a national semifinalist last year, have been ranked No. 1 by the Division II Bulletin to start the season.

CPP’s 2013-14 season marked the 24th time the team has made an NCAA Tournament appearance, and the 20th time the Broncos have been the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Champions.

The Broncos graduated just one player from that team.

Headlining the returning cast is All-American Jada Blackwell, who has been picked as the NCAA Division II Preseason Player of the Year. The senior center out of Etiwanda High school.

Through last year’s NCAA postseason, Blackwell totaled 135 points. That left her just 15 points shy of breaking the all-time Division II record for tournament scoring. Blackwell racked up 620 points in the 2013-14 campaign, putting her at No. 5 in Broncos’ history on the single-season leader board.

Also returning this season, and also in the double digits in that Final Four matchup is Academic All-American Ariel Marsh, who sank her 80th three pointer of the year against Bentley to secure second place on the Broncos’ single-season list.

The Broncos will begin their season on Nov. 14 at 5 p.m., as they travel to the Felix Event Center in Azusa to play the Point Loma Sea Lions.
