Cajon grad throws no-hitter at UC Riverside

Cajon High School graduate Chelsea Ponce put her name in the record book at UC Riverside, pitching the first no-hitter in school history since the Highlander moved to NCAA Division I.

She walked one and struck out five as the Highlanders blanked Bethune-Cookman (Fla.) 7-0. She faced three batters over the minimum. In addition to the one walk, two runners reached on errors.

Two of the base runners against her came in the seventh inning but she got out of the jam with the shutout in tact.

On the season Ponce boasts an impressive mark of 20-3 with a 1.11 earned run averages. She has 116 strikeouts, 86 hits and 22 earned runs allowed in 141 innings.

The junior is coming off a red-shirt season after spending her first two collegiate seasons at Riverside Community College.
