Cal State San Bernardino favored in CCAA volleyball race

For the first time in eight years the Cal State San Bernardino volleyball team comes into the season as the hunter, not the hunted.

The Coyotes saw their streak of eight straight CCAA titles snapped last year by Sonoma State.

But the preseason coaches poll reflects that most think coach Kim Cherniss and her squad will win that back.

The Coyotes totaled 136 points and snagged five first-place votes, finishing just slightly ahead of Sonoma State, which collected 134 points and a conference-leading seven first-place votes.

Cal State L.A. also received a first-place vote and is expected to finish third with 114 points.

UC San Diego, which is set to play host for the conference’s first-ever Championship Volleyball Tournament, was projected to finish fourth with 109 points.
