Lakers to have fixed Shaquille O’Neal jersey ready by Friday against Memphis

The Lakers will correct the display of Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 34 retired jersey in time for when the Lakers play Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies at Staples Center, according to a team spokesman.

In their halftime tribute Tuesday night, the Lakers featured O’Neal’s name stretched across the front of a Lakers jersey instead of the back. O’Neal’s jersey has a V-shape neckline associated with the front instead of a more rounded one for the back reserved for the others hung around Staples Center, including Lakers legends Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Gail Goodrich and Jamaal Wilkes.

O’Neal didn’t appear to notice the mistake during his ceremony at halftime of the Lakers’ 101-81 victory Tuesday over the Dallas Mavericks. He graciously thanked former Lakers owner Jerry Buss, West, former Lakers coach Phil Jackson as well as the fans for their role in helping him win three NBA championships during his eight seasons with the team.
