    Given that the Lakers essentially had a D league club last year and Kobe, Gasol, and Nash are either on their way down or done at this stage, how is a coaching change and a first round draft pick going to change anything? It seems to me that giving Kobe so much money to play on a gutted team at this stage in his career was the same mistake the Knicks made when they gutted their team for Melo. There’s not enough cap room left to build a contender. Throw Gasol in the mix and the Lakers really looked doomed for several years. The only winner here may have been D’Antoni. He got out of Dodge while the going will remain bad.
