It’s official: Galaxy can clinch the Supporters’ Shield with just one more win! LA is leading MLS with 56 pts, RSL has 52 pts and FCD has 50 pts. A victory over Colorado or Dallas in one the final two games of the season would give the Galaxy 59 pts, and neither RSL or FCD would be able to match this total.

Cal State Northridge men 0 UC Davis 1
Matadors lose their Big West Conference home opener.

UCLA men 1 San Diego 0
Bruins go to 3-0 in Pac-10 play.

Pepperdine 1 Loyola Marymount 1
Notable: Junior forward Rebecca Klamser equalized from almost 40 yards in the 88th minute for the Waves in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Quotable:

“This was an epic derby,” Pepperdine Coach Tim Ward said. “It had all the criteria of a classic. LMU scored a good goal, but it impressed me that we never quit. And what a great goal by Rebecca. It was probably one of the most timely goals in Pepperdine history.”

I finally figured out why US is relatively successful internationally. They give their opponents a false sense of security with continued mistakes, miscues and misplays then catch them totally offguard with some good soccer here and there. Hats off to Bradley, I may be smarter than Arena but I’m no match for him.
