Reports: Texas interested in UCLA head coach Jim Mora

Jim Mora (and UCLA fans) might as well get used to this. As long as the Bruins keep winning, their head coach’s name will come up every time a major job is open.

The latest suitor is Texas, which pushed Mack Brown into retirement. ESPN reports that the school is looking at Mora as a potential replacement, though sources dispute whether or not there has been contact.

Orangebloods.com reports that Mora — who just guided UCLA to its first 10-win season since 2005 — will interview with the Longhorns after Louisville’s Charlie Strong and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin.

The 52-year-old recently turned down an offer from alma mater Washington and agreed to an extension with UCLA through 2019. Although Texas’ resources dwarf that of either the Huskies or the Bruins, he has maintained over the past several weeks that he has no intention of leaving Westwood.

“(UCLA athletic director) Dan Guerrero gave me a chance when I was in TV,” Mora told the Daily News in late December. “I wasn’t coaching. He took a chance on me, quite frankly. People forget that. I’m a loyal person. I always have been, I always will be. Loyal to a fault sometimes. I’d rather be loyal to a fault than disloyal.”
