  1. It now looks like Cheryl Cole will finally be confirmed as a judge on the US X Factor, where she will inevitably be compared to Jennifer Lopez on American Idol. We know Cheryl is a girl from the rough English town of Newcastle and has been arrested for assault. But JLo is a Puerto Rican girl from The Bronx. Hey, she’s Jenny from the block! The question that needs to be answered in Los Angeles in 2011 – Cheryl versus JLo in a fight?

    Option A:

    You get Kiff fired for trying to break SC tradition and stonewalling you at every press conference by constantly taking cheap shots at him and ultimately framing by feeding him roofies and waking him up in a room with one of your “inside usc interns”. Then PC gets fired from the Caesarhawks for lack of institutional control, gets re-hired by SC, and names you his personal tweeter.

    Option B:

    Move to England to cover the EPL…

  5. Scott, your style seems to look at the negative angle to most stories. Your comment about Larry Scott “But the reality is the marketplace was the overriding factor in this mega-deal, not Larry Scott” seems to suggest that the Pac 12 would have had the same results regardless if Scott was the commissioner. Is this how you feel?

  6. Scott, I know here at USC we hold Pat Haden in pretty high regard, but I’m wondering whether he’s a bit lower in status when compared to the AD’s at the other Pac-10/12 schools. It seems curious to me that USC is settling for 2 night games in the coming football season. Is this happening because as a new AD within the conference he doesn’t have as much status relative to the other AD’s in the conference? Or is he trying to build goodwill with the other schools, or both?

  8. Scott – There seem to be a great deal of potential D1 transfers that are floating around out there, why doesnt the basketball team use their last remaining scholarship rather than let it sit around unused this year? For example, former Pitt forward, JJ Richardson.

  9. It would be great to challenge Cal every year for the NCAA Rugby title. The concentration of Pacific Islanders (Samoans, Tongans, Fijians, etc.) in Southern California could form the basis of a pipeline of rugby talent, some of which might also crossover to football, limiting the number of additional scholarships and cost. Rugby is also more interesting to watch and only takes two hours per match, leaving more time for tailgaiting. Does USC have any interest in adding Rugby? Did you know that the original English name for American Football is “Start-stop Rugby with Padding?”

  10. Considering the Friday night Pac-12 Championship Game… when/if USC hosts this game, will Larry Scott personally valet park my car, knowing that parking would be atrocious? Perhaps a less-snarky question: Was the parking situation at USC taken into account for this aspect of the deal?

  11. Scott, Tradition aside, does nobody worry that the black jerseys would certainly attract the element that has put a Giants fan in a coma and tanked Dodger attendance this year?

  15. Scott- Don’t you really think Haden is a “Showboat”? Really, other than kissing the press’ rearends and the NCAA, do you really think he’s getting BETTER results than Mike Garrett? Both in athletics and academics? (Try to be objective. Everyone knows Mike had no use for the press)

  17. wolfman, need your sage wisdom on this one. as an objective observer of Southern Cal sports, i am already starting to pick up some chippiness by trOXans towards Pat “Bounce Pass” Haden, the surprise is, it is coming far sooner than one would expect. its clear trOXans will turn on Haden eventually, but if Kiff goes 7-5 (a real possibility), basketball continues to slide and Baseball remains insignificant, is Haden’s job in jeopardy as early as summer of 2012??

  21. Do you have any knowledge of any USC interest in Chris Stringer from Citrus C.C. now that he has met academic requirements? He would go to helping OL depth and will have four years to play three.

  23. Would you mind explaining your fascination with trying to make black socks a controversy? It’s nothing new. Look at highlights from the 2008 season. Mark Sanchez & Co wore black socks throughout parts of the season and can be seen in games against Ohio State and Penn St in the Rose Bowl. It’s not a big deal. Maybe you can get back to issues regarding offensive lineman not recruited by Pete Carroll or maybe the play-calling of Jeremy Bates.

  27. Barkley has potential to be a great quarterback, but at times his decision making and accuracy is off, and thats whats holding him back. If Barkley comes back next yr, can he lead SC to the national title game? or do you think SC is better off with him leaving (keeping in my mind his flaws) and the other quarterbacks put SC in a better position to win rather than Barkley?

Wolf, when I read (out loud) your reponse to the recent question about Black Jerseys, the other guys in the room were stunned!! You seemed to wholly agree with the premise that Black Jerseys were dangerous not so much because of “Tradition issues” but more so because they would attract the “gangbanger” element. Wolf, this response has a lot of implications, concerning fashion, race, stereotyping (of several races including caucasion), and what exactly your position is a leader of Southern Cal Nation.

    I want to give you the opportunity to clarify what exactly you meant when you appeared to agree with your reader’s revealing post.
