Morning Buzz

One of USC’s biggest recruiting need next year is defensive tackle but over the weekend the Trojans did not offer Eddie Vanderdoes of Placerville, Calif. With 15 scholarships, there is a feeling the Trojans need more evaluation time at spots that are more difficult to gauge and defensive tackle is considered perhaps the toughest position to project in college.

  1. Great, fucla and the fuskies both offered Vanderdoes and now we are behind in recruiting, just like we were last year with a certain OL from San Clemente.

  2. sweeeeet scooopin’ wolfman!! but be careful not to offend the delicate sensabilities of the thin-skinned trOXans!! remember, they are a BCS Championship-less Dynasty!!! no other team has COME CLOSE to cheating/choking/4th&1-ing their way to LOSING SIX STRAIGHT BCS Champeeeenships!!! show some respect!!

and this year’s team, which is frought with huge holes, is #1 in the Nation!! oh, this could be the greatest season EVER for the Classy Cadre!!!

i feel so….you know! and tingly!!!

  3. Chill out, Gotroy.

You are better off thinking for yourself than drinking Wolf’s kool aide. Wolf is an unhappy, third-rate journalist who will suck you down into his miserable existence if you let him.

If USC had offered Vanderdoes, then Wolf would be writing that USC is desparately chasing stars instead of doing a thorough evaluation. This is what he continues to bash Pete Carroll for.

Fact is, even if USC had 25 schollies they still wouldn’t be able to offer every player who fucla and UW chase after. If USC decides that Vanderdoes is one of the top DTs who will fits into USC’s system and can qualify academically, there is still plenty of time to recruit him. For the record, USC did an excellent job of recruiting Murphy and almost got him. There is little doubt that Murphy knew exactly what USC and Stanford had to offer, and that he made the choice that suited him (and his father). You can’t ask for more than that.

An objective analysis of Kiffin’s recruiting will show that USC is landing a decent share of the elite recruits which it pursues. Don’t let Wolf convince you that he knows more about how to recruit than USC’s coaching staff.

  4. haha could you imagine if Wolf were a recruiter. He would scare every recruit’s family. They would be like “who is this creeper we allowed into our house?”

  5. Now…I’m not one to GLOAT, but I understand Vanderdoes had a great trip visiting U-C-L-A over the weekend. While visiting he spent some time with Tim Tebow, who was working out at U-C-L-A. Seems Mr. Vanderdoes was extremely impressed with the Campus and Coaching Staff. It also seems KIFFY and CREW know how well the visit went and are now “AFRAID TO COMPETE”.
    Oh well, fite on anyway!
(Limbo U, there’s only one way to go….and that’s LOWER!)

  6. JAG is the typical USC rah rah. They spout ” Trust the coaches” defend to the death anything they do and then when the shat hits the fan, they bitch and whine about how bad the coach was ( Smith, Hackett ). Why not offer the kid , what can it hurt?

  7. “Why not offer the kid, what can it hurt?”

Are you serious? If the kid doesn’t qualify, it hurts. If the kid is a bust, it hurts. If the kid is a bad fit for USC’s defense, it hurts. If USC loses out on better players, it hurts. I say, “Why not invest the effort to thoroughly evaluate the recruits, what can it hurt?”

If you are suggesting that USC offer this kid, please tell me that you’ve researched all the top DTs out there…that you know how this kid compares…that you’ve researched his character and academic qualifications…and that he’s one of the best for USC.

My guess is that you’ve never even heard of this kid…but you’ve decided he’s a must get because Wolf wrote about him. You can bag me for “Trust the coaches”, but I will be critical of them when it is warrented. In this case, I don’t think it was an eggregious error not to offer this kid a full year early.

But to turn the tables, are you a “Trust the Wolf” kinda guy? If you were HC, would you ask Wolf for a list of players and a schedule for offering them? If not, perhaps we’re not so diferent. If so, LMAO.

  8. PERIOD is the typical blog moron. They spout nonsense like someone/anyone gives a shit what they think.

  9. Why isn’t the discussion about who we have offered, and are looking at.We offered Joe Mathis from Upland for the DL this weekend, wheres Wolfs break down on him?

  10. JAG, nice posts buddy. It’s nice to see a few coherent people here. Just ignore the trolls, they only want a reaction out of you.

  11. JAG pretty much nailed it.

And I like FIGHTON’s idea of making Wolf a recruiter. Put him in an ND or Oregon jersey, give him an address book, and turn him loose. Assuming he didn’t get lazy and actually made it to a recruit’s house, he would probably try to get his picture taken with the kid’s sister, complain about being offered coffee, and awkwardly stared at the recruit with a look on his face like he was sucking on a lemon.

  12. Getting back to the actual question………………
Learning from this past recruiting class, maybe the coaches better pay more attention to what the parents are thinking/saying. Maybe you need to recruit like Texas and start recruiting linemen like they are QBs in junior High. One thing is certain, it makes no difference what offense is being played, if you have a big bruising physical D-line, that offense has to deal with it in limiting the plays it runs. Don’t forget that Lane Kiffin!

  13. Notice how tired Fred’s act has gotten. He posts as Bucket with the usual lame provocation and gets no response so he tweaks it a bit as Thai and is ignored again.
    So sad…

  14. whew!!! thanks, Jethro, for not leaving me hanging!! i was waiting all day for validation and then you came along with your gruff exterior to slam me!! but i know deep down you are a HUGE Chucker-Bucker fan!!!

i admit my material has been a little boring lately, but recall, i have been in the stretch run for Valentine’s Day, one of the biggest candy days of the year!! now i can exhale!!

sent a huge shipment of candy to Southern Cal recently. i oversaw production of that batch myself.
    🙂

  15. Ahh, poor ol’ Charlie Bucket. I’m gonna be honest with you here Charles….your material hasn’t gotten boring just lately, it’s always been boring.

Well no, that’s a little harsh. Perhaps maybe 1 out of 50 of your posts are somewhat funny, which is still a little weak though if you want to live up to your entertainment monkey calling.

That being said, maybe you should just stick to being a creepy candy man.

  16. 714: i’ll always be a candy man first and foremost!!! but 1 outta 50??? i’ll take it!!!

Jethro: c’mon, that’s weak. i have been accused of being pert’near everyone on this blog!! does Obama go around denying he’s a muslim every day?? sure you gained fame for your “Wallin Conjecture”, but so many other of your theories have crashed and burned….e.g. no one ever agreed with your “Thai Conjecture” actually, quite the contrary.

(as an aside, i wonder what % of Southern Cal students think Obama is a Muslim?? my guess: 22%…hmmm i think this would a delightful piece for the LAT!!!)
