Is Today’s AEG Announcement Good For USC?

The mega-company announced today it is no longer for sale and that CEO Tim Leiweke, who led the charge to build an NFL stadium, has left the company.

Although owner Phil Anschutz insists he is committed to bringing an NFL team to Los Angeles, Leiweke was the point man. A new stadium was going to make the Coliseum seem even more dated (even with a makeover) and an NFL team would remove USC as “Los Angeles’ NFL team.”

So with little momentum at the moment for the NFL project, that probably is good for USC.

  2. Wolfman, brilliant thinking on your part. You led us right through it to an inspiring ending. What else could we ask for.

  3. The problem is out of town NFL teams use the proposed move to LA as a way to get a better deal from their current cities.

April of last year Arte Moreno met with former AEG’s exec Leiweke per the Angels obligation towards Anaheim expiring after 2016 season. The Angels now have to begin to think hard because should they choose not to move after 2016 they’re stuck in Anaheim until 2029.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Moreno and once in a century for the Angels.
