Unbroken Or Unknown?

UNBROKEN

For all the hype and publicity, is anyone even talking about the film, “Unbroken” anymore? USC fans had to endure a video message from Angelina Jolie at halftime of a football game promoting the film. And someone who saw the movie (I did not) tells me there is no mention of USC in the film. Not that it was required but there sure was a lot of promotion aimed at USC fans for the film.

  1. I am a movie addict– I love to see them on the big screen, preferably with few others in a theatre. And I saw Unbroken.

It is what it is, primarily an exploitation flick concentrating too heavily on the torture sequences, and hardly any development of the post-WWI life he led. I did like the opening 1/3 of the flick showing how they survived in a small rubber raft for week after week.

  2. The film completely skips the USC years. They show him in high school and refer to him as the Torrance Tornado (a nickname given to him while at USC), then show him in the Olympics, and then onto his military career, bypassing his years at USC training for the next Olympics (that were cancelled because of WW2). Would have been nice if USC had gotten some mention.

    • You never know what they left on the cutting room floor. He was clearly a great man and doesn’t need Angelina Jolie to prove it.

      • Agree completely, however when Angelina and the studio are pandering to USC fans and alumni, it feels pretty hollow when the school isn’t even mentioned in passing.

  3. The movie cost $65 million and it pulled in $157 million. I think there are a lot of people talking about it. Reviews were mostly positive by those that have seen it.

Not surprised that Wolfie is criticizing a movie that he has never seen It’s like the USC Football team. Wolfie criticizes everything about the USC Football team through an unnamed “source”. Just like his source on the movie, aka “someone who saw the movie”.

Promotion aimed at USC fans? USC was using Louie for their own agenda for years and years before the movie. I just don’t see the bashing of the movie. Maybe watch it first.

    • The only movies that Scott bothers to watch require that he wears a trench coat………in a dark theater….

    • Criticizing a movie Scottie has never seen follows the trajectory of criticizing USC football, although he never attends practice. Heck, he runs a chat room DURING the game so how much is he actually paying attention to the game.

    • wolfman didn’t critique the film, as usual he just stated a few FACTS!!! the director chose to keep ANY reference to Southern Cal out of the movie! a good choice, but still a slap in the face to Southern Cal!!!

      that’s the facts, Jack!!!!

      Razzle-Dazzle!!!!!!

      • Bucket, go get your night light. It’s movie night with your boyfriend, Scottie.

  4. Uh, well, Scott…. life goes on…..there have been numerous other newsworthy events (as deemed by the media) that have taken place since the release of this movie…such as, the Super Bowl (especially, by YOU!) and College National Letter of Intent signing day……

  5. Trojans don’t need to be name-checked like that. Almost every interview Louie ever did, he appeared in an SC hat. He was a great man, and we honor his service.

  6. wolfman, i can’t help but wonder how much O.J., the sacntions, and the continuous shenanigans that earned the title Clown College, affected the choice to banish any reference to Southern Cal???

Southern Cal stands for uber-Conservative, entitled (cheating) values….Hollywood don’t play that, wolf-dog!!

Jolie didn’t want the crowd booing and yelling “Clown College!!”
in the movie house whenever they showed Southern Cal, tainting her masterpiece!!

  7. Wolf, when you are gone (dead) maybe a hand full of people will care, and in a matter of a few years nobody will remember you even existed. You’ve written nothing significant nor done anything to be remembered. Louis Zamperini’s accomplishments were well known even before the book and film were made. He was liked and respected in life and now will be revered by thousands, maybe millions for all time. He’s a hero to his home town, his university and his country; who he served, fearlessly and in the end set an example for all. You are the lowest of lows.

  8. wolfman, i just wanna say, you are KILLLING it today!!

you mustta had a Tapatio Burger at Five Guys, cause hermano, you are on FIRE!!!

  9. Everyone knows Zamperini is a Trojan. That fact didn’t really fit into Jolie’s film well, which already ran long and was too fixated on the redundant prison torture, which could have been cut in half at least. We got the picture, okay!

The movie ended without covering Zamperini’s life post WWII, basically. Just a few torch carrying sequences – 5 mins. To me, the most interesting part of his life was what he did when he got back to the states after being pronounced dead. Quite a guy. Jolie would have done well to devote at least 1/2 hour to this part of his life.

The book was fantastic. The movie dragged.

    • Agreed. Fantastic book. The movie was only “pretty good”. Let’s face it, to read the story of a man surviving in a life raft and then tortured for years in a POW camp was captivating and awe inspiring. To see it reenacted…not so much.

  10. Plowing new ground in the gripes department! Here’s one for free, Wolf: Remember when George Lucas came to a game a few years ago to promote the movie “Red Tails” and then the film came out and nobody went to see it? I blame Kiffin!

By the way — most right-thinking True Americans regard Angelina Jolie as being rather easy on the eyes, not as something to be “endured”.

  11. No mention of USC? dang it, now you tell me. I guess I will go watch it now, I heard it was an excellent movie.

  12. My question is, if they ever made a movie about Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden, who woudl play Sam Gilbert in the move? I would say Sean Penn or Charlie Sheen, both who are not above caharcter at best, supposedly.
