USC Pre-Game Entrance Banned

The overzealous entrance USC players made before the Alabama game (below) will not repeat itself. Clay Helton and other coaches spoke to the team about it on Sunday and Monday.
“Good teams don’t worry about the pageantry of the game, they worry about doing their job,” Helton said.

    • Same reason SC got mauled 52-6. USC was not nearly prepared for this stage against a great team. Helton’s learning on the job. We got what the BOTs and Nikias wanted and paid for – a newbie coach who wasn’t supposed to cause PR problems, except he just opened with the worst USC performance in 50 years. Poor little USC. Only way out is through this. Now we’ll see what CH is really made of. He just got a dose of his career in instant decline and USC without a single AP vote. Gonna be very interesting.

      • Yeah, and our school is paying him millions a year for his on-the-job training, PLUS the shame and humiliation he’s creating with the team.

      • So, then, Haden was not in favor of this hire, correct? Sorry to dwell on this point, but I sense that you are privy to a more inside view that many.

  1. We keep revisiting, it is just as embarrassing now as it was at the game in Dallas. Turn it off!

  2. Stuff like this is trivial. Just like banning music in practice. You didn’t get blown out because of music and whatever they did before running out on the field. You and your staff are terrible and can’t coach. Ban that.

  3. it makes me wonder why they did it? This is one of the D1 football teams that doesn’t wear names on their back because they are a team not individuals. Why were they being individuals on TV like that?

  4. Like i have said. Helton is a nice likable guy, but that doesnt make him a great head coach. Should not have happened last week.

  5. They certainly displayed in incredible lack of maturity. Why was it allowed to happen? Hopefully, everybody got a big dose of humble pie and will go to work trying to be better players and coaches and quit the crap. This SC football team is nothing till they can show us something on the field. A blow out of Utah St would be a good start.

  6. Everyone,
Our favorite substitute teacher—who everyone knows does not cause trouble—is learning on the job! What’s next?

  7. I’ll tell you what USC is lacking leadership on the football field I’m not talking about the coaches ,but the veteran players who are going to keep players in check and holding players accountable for there actions and playing up to USC footballs expectations. Like all the great all American players from the past

  8. JuJu Smith-Schuster stop being a big cry baby it’s not all about you. It’s about the team ,start being the leader, the football team so desperately needs

  9. Thank the f’ing lord. I don’t know what was more painful to watch: This ridicously, immature, and overly theatrical field entrance, or the game in its entirety. Please, for the love of god just turn it around this weekend. I don’t ask for much.

      • While they’re at it, they should check with all the North Vegas used car sales lots. He’s probably still trying to make up for a less busy than anticipated Labor Day weekend.

when life gives you lemons, you should try to sell them, I think he always said.

      • They are dredging Lake Havasu after reports that someone jumped off the London Bridge Saturday night around 8PM.

  10. I have been critical of SW in the past, but I think he has done a pretty darn good job this week. He has painted a pretty good picture of the debacle that was Saturday and the state of the program—in a fairly even handed manner. I have been critical, but think when SW does good work I should acknowledge the positive also.

    • It has been the fact that there was a lot of negative to write about, it is what he does best. That and the fact he has pretty much stuck to football and not the stupid extraneous crap that he like to post.

  11. On another topic: Anyone know what really happened to Plattenburg? Dude must’ve really got his bell rung. He’s been out a long time.

  12. Hey Helton – lose about 50 lbs….get rid of that goofy baseball cap try wearing something with long sleeves…dump the 10 grader USC ‘jacket/windbreaker’….at least get yourself in shape and look like a HC which frankly you’re going to be very very hard pressed to do….the Mountain West is a good fit for your togs, shape and hat.

    • Alvarado, I like your takes in general. Even when I disagree with you. But this one is a miss. Plenty to criticize without resorting to personal attacks.

        • As a chubby guy who is pretty successful I will respectfully disagree. Not that his skill set is lacking ( at least until this point); but that how he looks is relevant to his skills. I am afraid you won’t have me to kick around for a few weeks–heading out to vacation. Including Saturday’s game–and God I hope I see improvement. Be well my friend.

  13. I understand that the letters on the jersey often recruits for itself. However, I’ve still been surprised by USC’s ability to recruit top classes (so they say) during the last few years. It appears we now have our answer. Many of these “top” recruits probably came to SC because they were more interested in everything but the actual football game. It makes sense, why the hell would any top player with a decent head on his shoulders want to come to the mess that is USC of the last few years? If things are corrected before too long, USC will just attract knuckleheads, instead of the current crop of knuckleheads who are supposed to be able to play.

  14. All yall full of crap. That team was ready. The Qb play killed that game and the season it looks like. All these comments and nobody is talking about Browne and his lack of leadership. Those players have zero respect for him. He his a fifth year player for a reason. The politics with Jaleen Green killed the moral and then not starting Darnold and seeing No Heart – No Athletic Ability – Scared Captin Killed it. KEEP IT REAL !

  15. I thought the entrance was tacky, but I did not give it a second thought. Much ado over nothing.
If SC had won or played closely no one would have even mentioned it.
