Doc Rivers believes Chris Paul’s broken finger could affect defense

Clippers coach Doc Rivers believes that Chris Paul, who has a broken left index finger he’s playing with, could be affected more on defense by the injury than on offense.

“Yeah, probably,” Rivers said Sunday at practice. “He’s a reacher. I was a reacher. It makes you not want to reach as much, which may be good. Who knows? But Chris has the best hands, to me, in the game defensively. … (Golden State’s) Steph Curry is another guy. He has amazing defensive hands and when your hands are hurting, you tend not to do it as much.”

The Clippers – 1-3 in exhibition games – play host to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday at Staples Center.
