Newly acquired Tarik Black practiced with the Lakers on Saturday, but Coach Bryon Scott said he did not have a timetable for when Black might make his debut.

“It’s just me trying to find him playing time, and I will,” Scott said. “I don’t know if it will be tomorrow (against Indiana) or I don’t know if it will be next week.”

The Lakers claimed Black off waivers this past week after the Houston Rockets released him to clear a spot for the recently signed Josh Smith.

Black, an undrafted rookie from the University of Kansas, averaged 4.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 15.7 points and impressed with his hard-nosed style and hustle, particularly starting in 12 games when Dwight Howard missed time with an injury.

The Lakers released Xavier Henry to sign Black, but Scott said he wants to make sure Black is acclimated to the Lakers’ system.

“I’ve got to feel comfortable with him knowing what we’re doing on both ends of the floor,” Scott said. “When he gets the time, I’m sure he’ll be ready.”
