Reign: Kraus, Kilburg cut in Portland

Center Tim Kraus and defenseman Brian Kilburg were cut Monday by the AHL’s Portland Pirates, the Portland Press Herald reports. The two will report on time for the start of training camp with the Reign.

Geoff Walker and Mike Zacharias are the only players whom the Reign signed over the summer still in an AHL camp. Both are with the Kings’ AHL affiliate in Manchester, N.H.

Walker, Zatkoff, Holloway to Manchester

The Kings assigned forwards Geoff Walker and Bud Holloway, and goaltender Jeff Zatkoff, to Manchester of the AHL on Sunday. Walker, who was invited to the Kings’ camp on a tryout, hasn’t signed an AHL contract but is merely continuing his tryout in Manchester.

Also, ex-Reign defenseman Colten Teubert, the Kings’ first-round draft pick in 2008, was assigned to Regina of the Western Hockey League on Sunday.

Reign: Walker survives first round of Kings’ cuts.

The Kings cut eight players from their training camp roster today, and Geoff Walker wasn’t one of them. The Reign right wing is still in the running to achieve his goal of playing for the Kings at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.

Walker did not play in either of the Kings’ split-squad exhibition games Tuesday (one in Phoenix, one in Los Angeles) against the Coyotes.

The players heading back to their juniors teams (destination in parentheses) are: G Jean-Francois Berube (Montreal, QMJHL), D Nicolas Deslauriers (Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL), G Martin Jones (Calgary, WHL), RW Brandon Kozun (Calgary, WHL), RW Linden Vey (Medicine Hat, WHL). D Milan Doczy, D Radko Gudas and C Tyler Maxwell were released from their tryout contracts.
