Answers, Part V

Here is the fifth set:

Is there official recruiting material that the football and basketball teams send out to recruits? What are the contents? Does it have video/dvds?
They send out everything. Newspaper articles, brochures about the school, hand-written letters. Anything that will accentuate the program or school gets sent to recruits.

Do you go to the Bruin Bash at away games?
No.

I read your article re: Dominique Johnson. Does he just not run hard on every play? Is he lazy? Why is everyone always commenting on his “effort?”
Everyone is always commenting on his effort because the coaching staff, and himself, say he does not give maximum effort all the time, and it drives everyone crazy because his talent level is so high.

Who always gives the best effort on the team? Day in and day out?
Too many guys to list, but the Bosworth twins are the ones that immediately jumped into my mind.

Do the players on the team know you by name? Or are you just another media dude? Do you know if any of the players read this blog?
The majority of them know me by name since I’ve been around for their whole careers. And, from what I understands, a good numbers of players ready the blog. And if not, many of the family members read it and relay information.

Paul Simon or James Taylor?
I’ve seen fire, and I’ve seen rain.

Do you think the bball team will the PAC10 and make another deep run in the tournament without an established big man? Will we have even adequate big men this year for defense and rebounding?
First, defense and rebounding should not be an issue with Aboya and Morgan. The scoring is another issue. I think UCLA will win the Pac-10 because the conference is down, and I think the biggest challenge is Arizona State. I believe Ben Howland will be able to mold this team into a Pac-10 winner.

Is there any way to get someone to approve the comments on the posts? I’m tired of opening posts and seeing 20 responses between VB and other posters attacking each other. It really detracts from the blog IMO.
The problem with approving comments is I have to read them all, at all hours of the day, for any dialogue to be ongoing. I will, though, ask for folks to keep the discussions reasonable.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in journalism?
I don’t know. It’s what I wanted to do since high school. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind being involved in Rutgers’ athletic department in some way if I couldn’t do this.
