Offering many thanks, and some sadness

I began covering UCLA in the summer of 2003, and in the last six years I made some great friends, ticked off some folks and had a bevy of wonderful experiences.
With a lot of excitement looking ahead and some sadness, for what I am leaving behind, I wanted to let everyone know I am leaving the Daily News. My family and I are moving back to New Jersey.
Within the next week and for those interested, I will get word out a about my new gig, which is not UCLA related. Right now is not the correct timing for me to say what it is.
I want to thank everyone for all the great times I had covering UCLA, and the incredible success of this blog. The experiences I had covering UCLA are things I will always remember.
The Daily News has been great to me and my family, and I wish it nothing but success in the future. I also know the Daily News will continue to treat UCLA, and the blog, with the utmost importance.

    Let me just say, in a few short words, that all games must come to an end. We have finally reached the end of the Fourth Quarter, the final whistle has blown, and the game is now over. Time to head to the locker room and go home. Enjoy the NJ Taylor Ham and grease trucks.

    Leaving for Rutgers perhaps? More money and family. Only reason I can think of for leaving beautiful Southern CA.

    I would also like to add the opinion to the Daily News staff that I would be against Scott Wolf covering this blog as a replacement. I think the Inside USC blog contains a lot of drivel, very little information, and reads more like a Perez Hilton website. I prefer the Daily News find someone that desires to run this blog much like Brian did, and please know that whoever takes this position has a lot to live up to.

They will NEVER come close to the QUALITY of coverage you had provided these past six years. Many there did not like some of your opinions of UCLA, but then again, there is no saving those overzealous fans.

    Let’s hope that we can get a great quality beat writer with an excellent work ethic like Dohn…or at least half of that. Thank you very much and good luck in your future endeavors.

    Brian, thanks… although you were overly senitive much of the time (especially for a blog), do appreciate the efforts put forth, the numerous updates, and the posting of on point “anonymous” comments – despite the numerous threats.

    That being said, it will be good to get a fresh change. I too fear if an “unknown” will take over and not have a good relation or inside track with the teams/personal that this blog will suffer greatly. Keeping fingers crossed. Now… let’s get this show on the road and get the new person in (personally I would prefer an alumni). Season’s about to start and there’s much NEWS to report.

    To you point about an alumni… you are truly missing the boat. One thing that made this blog great was Brian’s objectivity (infuriatingly so at times). His ability to give an objective inside look at a program we are not objective about is what made this blog great.

    Personally, I don’t care who replaces Brian, I just want the person to have:

    (1) Integrity – print what you know and respect your sources.

    (2) Respect – realize what the readers want and treat them with a level of respect. Football, recruiting, and hoops news is what the majority look for news on.

    (3) Insight – have good relationships with the people inside the basketball/football programs and build a sense of trust.

    Basically, these three characteristics describe Brian and they are why he and the blog were so successful.

    its too late for him to “finish strong”. this blog has been going down hill for weeks, and now it is even worse. hopefully soon the folks at the DN realize that print newspapers are not far from being completely gone and that they should pay more attention to their internet resources, especially one that was as successful as this blog. The longer they take to post something (anything!) the more visitors they are losing
