Weekly Answers, Pt. 3

1) If before the season you were told that would UCLA need Army to beat Navy so it could play in the EagleBank Bowl against Temple, would you have called the season a success? – Anonymous
Yes. Any bowl was a success this year.

2) I think Howland had to stand his ground or lose the team with regard to Drew Gordon. A single bad attitude is poison to a team and if Howland had caved to talent, he would have lost respect. Do you believe this to be the case, or do you think Howland needs to learn to bend, and cater to individuals more? – BruininSeattle
Agree with you in every way.

3) With Honeycutt back, will Jerime move to the bench? I can’t see him starting over Roll, Lee and Honeycutt. – romeojam
Yeah, I think Anderson will move back to the bench, if the coaches can convince Lee to pass up bad shots.

4) Brian Kelly told his players last Thursday that he was not going to leave Cincinnati and today he tweets that he’s going to interview with Notre Dame. Why would a coach tell people that he’s not interested for a head coaching job and end up interviewing? – San Jose State Booster
Because maybe on Thursday he wasn’t going to leave Cincinnati and his mind changed. I think any coach should always say, ‘I’ll listen to what they have to say,’ before issuing a blanket ‘No’ statement.

5) I think that Roll would be better at point than anyone now playing;do you agree? – solomonbruin
Problem is, he’s not quick enough to handle the better PGs in the Pac-10. But he’s definitely the best passer on the team.

6) It is a HUGE disappointment, but I am planning to go to the Emerald Nut Bowl this year instead of the BCS Championship Game. Do you have any recommendations for any good restuarants or nightclubs I can visit while in San Francisco? I heard the Castro gets pretty hot. Thanks in advance. – LAWYER JOHN
I was in San Francisco last week visiting my awesome niece, and you can’t go wrong with Eastside West and Naked Fish sushi in the Marina and Tomaso’s in North Beach. Best breakfast in the world at Kate’s Kitchen in the Haight. Never been to the Castro.

7) Who wins the cross-town football rivalry next year? – Nappydamus
USC.

8) Does it pretty much sum up the UCLA football program right now that everyone is excited UCLA *might* get the chance to play in the EagleBank Bowl after finishing 8th in the Pac-10? – Anonymous
It sums up UCLA fans that they scoff at the EagleBank Bowl after a 4-8 season. Have some perspective.

9) Jon, great job you do with the blog. Thank you. What do you think about Charlie Weis’ comments regarding Pete Carroll living with a graduate student in Malibu? Who has the bigger Ego, Charlie or throw-the-bomb Pete? – LAWYER JOHN
I won’t get into that mess. But I will say, Weis’s ego could not fit in the AstroDome.

10) How much of voting for the POY by coaches recognition and also trying to pump a player up so they may be more inclined to turn pro. I am sure, many Pac10 coaches don’t want to see Price stay for his sr season. – diehardbruin
No, I just think Brian Price was the best defensive player in the Pac-10. Sorry to burst your bubble. He was that good.
