Weekly Answers, Pt. 4

1) Did you hear the radio interview from ESPN’s Arash Markazi re: $UC’s football program. He is the 1st SC alum in the media that basically said the football program was out of control. Are u surprised that nobody in the SC admin/coaches has ever admitted/apologized for their errors and vowed to correct them? Seems like they are all on crack and still in denial. When is Garret going to get fired? – awash
Arash is a good friend and he knows his stuff about USC. He was there when a lot of this stuff happened, and his take on the “institutional control” aspect of all this is spot on. I’m very surprised that there hasn’t been a massive mea culpa, particularly from Garrett. The attitude there is, umm, shocking.

2) With the addition of other Big-12 members off the table, has there been any talk of other teams (like TCU (Texas TV market and recruiting), Colorado State (for the Colorado rivalry) or perhaps Houston or someone else to add to Utah? I know these names aren’t the same as Texas/OU but you could still create a viable 2 division scenario with Texas, SLC and Denver markets for TV deals. – Mike H Class of 90
I don’t expect any more expansion without a major market being introduced, so that takes off a Colorado State. Houston is definitely not at the Pac-10 level, but I think Texas is out of Pac-10 level, too. I wouldn’t be shocked if some of further expansion included Texas schools, but TCU would be a heavy longshot.

3) Can you give a little insight on how an expanded pac-10 with a better tv contract will benefit the member schools, specifically UCLA? – Anonymous
Pretty simple, as Dan Guerrero put it during our Q&A: “More eyeballs.” Bringing in two new huge markets – and we’re not talking small markets, here – will simply lead to more exposure, and with that, more money. The championship game in football would be a huge boost in respectability, and I think positions the Pac-10 well for a spot at the dinner table if and when the BCS gets booted.

4) UCLA made Hundley’s top 5 and he wants to be a doctor. What do you think UCLA’s chances are to land him and what do you think about his potential? – Resource Guy
I think UCLA is going to get him. I think there’s a reason they told Brock Berglund not to commit at the time. I would put it at 50-percent plus.

5) Has the PAC-10 considered expanding into Canada, say inviting the University of British Columbia in Vancouver? – Guest
No, only the EH?CC is venturing up north. Wow, that was an awful joke.
