Pat Haden Had `Gut Feeling’ About Program’s Decline

Pat Haden said at his press conference he started getting a “gut feeling” about something not being right with the football program at the Hawaii game. I guess those 13 games last season were not much of a hint. And I wonder how he feels about that video he made in late July now.
Haden said he was 100 percent behind Kiffin until last night.
“In my heart of hearts of I have supported Lane with everything the last three years,” Haden said.

    • Trojan Hoarse…..I wonder if there is any way the true Trojan faithful can rally enough support to get Scott Wolf fired. Just wishful thinking I know.

      • That right, it’s the Daily News reporter’s fault we suck at football now and gave up 62 points on national TV last night. He shouldn’t report all the stupid things Kiffin did the last 4 seasons. Then we would be undefeated.

        • The poor performance of the USC football team is certainly not Wolf’s fault. Nor should Scottie be remotely credited with their successful run during the Pete Carroll years…..His job is to report the NEWS surround the team…the good, the bad and the ugly….Wolf only knows how to report things as ugly as possible….I am not a Kiffin apologist, but you’re defending incompetent journalism……beautiful

      • someone should create a website, www dot firescottwolf dot com ……..perhaps we can “buy out” his contract?…. I think I have some laundry money laying around…….

        • You PISS and MOAN about Scotty way more than Scotty complained about Goat Boy. Why don’t you and your WHORE’s take it to someplace where people give a rat’s azzzz. Pathetic whining cry baby.
          fit UN RAH RAH!

          • The only person to piss and moan more than me, was your MOTHER in the delivery room when you were born…..make a run for the border, why don’t you…..And I’m not the only one to complain about Wolf….maybe somebody should READ this blog to you, since you are obviously illiterate……

          • weh, weh, weh,….There is no Santa, no Easter Bunny, and you knuckleheads are not contenders for anything except for finishing LAST!
            fit un weh, weh’s

          • wow! T-Hose went off the rails!!

Thai, we made another one crack!!

maybe you should take a knee T-Hose, or do you go all white trash racist whenever you lose a debate??

i hope your family doesn’t find out daddy is a closet racist!! whatta sad day that will be!

          • The only crack from me is the smile on my face…. as usual, you are giving yourself WAY too much credit, Blanket…….

          • He is rather cute when he gets upset…..he sometimes gets so flustered, he loses track of which screen name he’s using……

          • What? Was this a debate?…. are you the moderator?…..and since when is discussing childbirth, welfare and illiteracy considered racist?…..I guess the truth really does hurt…..

    • I think Scott’s daily mission has been to get HIMSELF fired (maybe for severance?)… but it hasn’t been working.

  1. What? Someone can’t be politically incorrect when such as you mocks him when he is?

Hats off to Haden for saying what he felt.

  2. I don’t think Wolfie even went the the presser. If he did, I didn’t hear him fire off a question.

  3. Got believe Haden is on a warm seat, but with the right replacement hire all will be well and he will be forgiven for taking so long to see the light about Kif.

    • Based on what? Firing Kiffin? At least make a cogent argument when targeting someone who had absolutely nothing to do with this mess in the first place.

      • Haden gets a football coach hire before the seat warms up. The decision on Kiffin’s replacement remakes or breaks his tenure as AD. Check back in 2018 after the new hire can truly be evaluated and we’ll see about Haden’s standing then.

But calling for him to be fired before he gets to make a football HC hire is unprecedented in big time college athletics. AD’s are ultimately evaluated based the personnel decisions they make and none is as important as this one.

  4. The Rivals website mentioned you were still in Arizona and hence not at the press conference. Guess you got your news from ESPN or the Times, just like the rest of us.

  5. Tony Burnett asks “What type of clown is Scott Wolf” and that is the question of the day.

Now that Kiffin is gone, it’s time for a public beat down of Wolf the Clown! All in say I!!!

      • Thanks David.

You gotta feel sorry for Kiffin – taking over at the start of crippling sanctions yet was expected to compete for a national championship. Yes he was a cold fish. Yes he couldn’t handle both OC and HC positions. Yes the offensive sucked. But who would have met expectations given the hand Kiffin was dealt?

        R.I.P Lane Kiffin

        • I do feel sorry for him. Today in several respects is a sad day for USC…but by the same token a new beginning. Kiffin took on a challenge no one was big enough to take. Albeit he was paid a handsome sum he just did not have the personality or experience for this challenge. I wish him and his family all the very best.

          • You summed it up very well. Like all things in life, if you want the big reward you need to take risks, and Kiffin took a big risk and failed.

          • Helen, Haden was right. Even grading on the curve, Kiffin failed. As he failed, he became more inflexible and badly behaved.

Kiffin’s story doesn’t rise to tragedy, because he doesn’t rise to the level of the flawed, noble spirit.

He has a family, and that adds some sadness. For his own growth, it’s very likely for the best. That man has needed some humility and willingness for a long time.

          • Nice to see this Blog can actually stimulate some intelligent dialog. Helen and Ben…thank you for your well articulated comments. We need more of that.

          • Pump this 8===D you piece of shlt.

Quit with the hater BS, it’s getting old. You’re whining like a little bitch!

If you don’t like what’s cooking then leave and take the other ruin trolls with you

      • Rah rahs enjoy her perspective of accepting mediocrity and demonizing anyone who doesn’t accept mediocrity.

  6. Just curious here. What has Haden done to upset so many of you? Seems to me that he inherited this mess, including Kiffin, from the previous administration. It’s very clear that the NCAA was never going to back down. What did you expect him to do? Sue the NCAA? On what grounds?

      • I think Todd McNair is arguing that the NCAA has prevented him from earning a living and did not have real proof. Not sure how that applies to an institution. Plus SC still had issues with Joe McKnight and Davon Jefferson. Even I think SC should have gotten some scholarships back after the recent Penn St. assistance and I have no real sympathy for SC…but it seems a bit arbitrary and unfair.

        • Well, the Court seems to think that the NCAA made it’s decisions with a degree of malice. I think USC could have threatened to ask for the Court to open the emails and correspondence that the NCAA seems to want to avoid at all costs. Could’ve bartered that for a few scholarships. What the fans mostly wanted was for USC to just stand up and not take the punishment lying down.

    • He’s done nothing other than shake hands and kiss babies. Not firing Kiffin at last season’s end was a monumental mistake. The recruiting class could have been saved and the next coach could have hit the ground running. Instead, the new coach will have to do some rebuilding.

Haden also took too long to fire Oneil after drunken altercations, losing, etc.. The bball hire was also botched. I actually think Enfield may workout, but it was clear he was a spur of the moment, flavor of the month hire (instead of a thoughtful strategy to lure a big name to town). It is the hiring process of the bball coach that tempers my optimism for the next football HC hire.

      • Do you care about the other sports? Got the impression that all you really cared about was football.

        • We care about football, basketball, track and baseball. All four are worse under Haden. If volleyball or swimming do well we are happy too.

  7. People, people, people, you are not going to get a top coach with 2 years of scholarship reductions left. Haden could not have fired Kiffin last year even if he wanted. Look at Alabama ten years ago, they went through the same thing as SC. Haden is rebuilding SC athletics and now is setting up for his biggest hire. He also quietly took care of the McKnight affair without any penalties. Would Garret have done that, not! Kiffin was the caretaker coach through sanctions, he gave us 50-0, probably will grow into a pretty good assistant somewhere in the NFL.

    • What coach wouldn’t take a premier job with a built in excuse? Seems to be the sort of thing coaches thrive on.

    • I think there is only 1 year of schollie restrictions- next year. That Class (’14) can have 17 or 18 which isn’t that bad.

  8. That feeling in Haden’s gut is a bottle of Rite Aid brand Bourbon!!

one thing Bounce Pass really learned at Southern Cal is how to beg like a snivellng dog!
he begged Savage to leave UCLA hours after winning the CWS!! he begged the NCAA publicly for mercy and was publicly kicked in the the crotch! now he’s gonna beg Mora Jr to leave UCLA??? oh it wouldn’t surprise me!!

his poor wife! he must’ve begged and cried on her front porch for weeks before she gave in and married the boozy little elf!!

    • For the amount of money Haden is being paid, I’d beg all they want.

As far as Savage goes, all Haden accomplished was massively driving up UCLA salary obligations in baseball. Good.

As far as the NCAA goes, what’s Haden supposed to do. Order them around? You must be stupider than I thought.

Begging Mora to leave UCLA? Doesn’t need to. Mora will be gone anyway as soon as the NFL gives him what he wants there – another chance.

Sniveling dog? Try Buffet Bob, Radio and Slick Rick out for size. What’s USC’s record against those UCLA sniveling failures?

Try beating USC for at least two consecutive years Bucket Boy. Oh, I forgot. Once upon a time, in another galaxy, you had a nice little streak but even then couldn’t accomplish jack in the college football world. Not jack.

Get over yourself Bucket Boy. You’ve finally got an actually decent team that once again, won’t come close to winning a national championship. That’s who you are. The Little Gutties, happy for any morsel of success you can get.

You’re the little boy on the block compared to the storied Trojans. Always have been. Always will be. That’s why everyone still calls you the Little Gutties.
Didn’t you once win something in 1954? Or was it 1953? I can’t remember. Many of us still hadn’t even been born back that far. Some success story!

  9. After doing Notre Dame telecast all those years, his benchmark for good football was Charlie Weis.

  10. I give Haden credit for pulling the trigger. It would have been easy enough to say nothing and wait for the season to end. But I agree he should have fired Kiffen last year.
