Lane Kiffin Rehabilitated

kiffinsunbowlESPN radio host Paul Finebaum said on his show that Lane Kiffin is a better offensive mind than Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. Here’s the exchange courtesy of AL.com.

“I don’t even think Gus Malzahn is the best offensive mind in the state of Alabama today,” Finebaum said.

“Who in the heck do you think is?” Charles asked.

“Lane Kiffin,” Finebaum said. “I would take Lane Kiffin this year at Alabama over what Gus Malzahn did at Auburn.”

I agree in one respect. I would take Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin over Gus Malzahn. But Kiffin v. Malzahn? Do only USC (and Raider) fans remember what he did? Ask yourself what USC would accomplish if Malzahn were hired back in 2009.

  1. Poor Wolfie. His nemesis, who kicked him out of USC practices, is making a killing at the nation’s #1 football program. Life moves forward. Not one of Wolfie’s strong points.

  2. You are the only one who still has issues with this guy, pathetic
Please seek out some professional help!

    • Once Goatboy gets canned at Bama everyone will see what a joke he is again … it’s the Bama talent stupid

  3. Every one of us UCLA BRUIN FANS….would welcome Goat Boy back to good ol’ SoSo Cal. We forgive him for attacking Wolfman…All is forgiven for Lane Kiffin!

    I love that Guey!
    Fite Un CLOWN SCHOOL!

  4. A flop as a head coach but a top tier assistant? This is pretty interesting. Will this be the future scenario for Sark, as well? Why do I have the strange feeling it actually will be?

    • Boy I hope not. But in hind sight you got to admit, Kiffin came in when SC was imploding with sanctions, he held things together, never had a losing season. He never seemed like a head coach and things spun out of control for him the last season or so. Kiffin should stay as an OC, know what you’re good at, don’t try to be something you’re not.

      • Trust me, GT. I do want Sark to recover from this unremarkable first season to become one of the greatest coaches in Trojan football history, He certainly has got time to do it. He’s only about 40 years of age. But the question is, will he be able to elevate the team as a national elite in the next few years, as the sanctions have come to an end. I think next season will be the decisive telltale sign as to the answer to the question. I can hardly wait for it.

  5. Malzahn would be fired, same as Kiffin. You can’t win with half a football team.

    • Kiffin wasn’t a good HC, in part because he stuck with ideas that required a full roster.

      Regarding Malzahn, it’s all speculation.

  6. Malzahn is by far a better offensive mind then kiffin. But then again I thought he was one of the brightest offensive minds out there 10 years ago.

  7. Goat Boy is the best thing that ever happened to UCLA. Peter Principle at it’s finest (well……almost..except when evaluating the performance of all those SoSo Cal Five Star can’t miss recruits).
Just a bunch of clowns from THE Clown School!

  8. Malzahn is without a doubt one of the best coaches in college football, period. He (& Cam Newton) are responsible for their NC. Last year’s turnaround at Auburn was flat out amazing.

  9. Do these “Know it all” Guru’s realize that Lane Kiffin has the best Talent in College Football to work with ? If you implement any Offensive coordinators game plan on to Alabama’s overly talented roster your gonna win some games, and get big time production.People fall into the media hype without using their heads, but that’s the nature of the media/beast.

    • Yes, I think it’s important to keep that in mind.

It’s not a surprise that, given the best talent, and an abundance of it, the offense was productive. I believe LK proved that concept 10 years ago at USC.

  10. Same Finebaum who once said (while Kiffin was still at USC) “Next time USC hires a Coach, they should hire an Adult”
